Locally Grown Tulips

Early season tulips from Valentine’s Day to Mothers’ Day

  • It starts with bulbs.

We work with tulip bulb farmers and distributors in the Netherlands to purchase unique varieties that we find beautiful. We hope you will too! Some of the bulbs are planted in the ground in our high tunnels in the fall. Others are planted into crates that we will force in a heated greenhouse in the late winter. This extends our tulip season.

  • Harvest

Our first tulips begin to bloom in early February. We currently force our tulips in a small greenhouse heated with propane, but we hope to transition to wood heat. The tulips in the unheated high tunnel start blooming in late March and continue through April. We harvest them twice daily and wrap them up for sale.

  • Farm to Vase!

We wrap our tulips up in bouquets of 10 stems for our customers. You can find our tulips through our 14 week tulip CSA, at the Friday Belfast Farmers’ Market, at the Marsh River Co-op, and other outlets listed below. They typically have a relatively long vase life (over a week!) and will change and open a little more each day.
