How it works

We grow a variety of delicious vegetables without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. CSA members pay in advance for their share of the harvest and pick up their bounty each week from June through October. Shares are not boxed or prescribed - you can choose the type and amount of produce you need to feed your household.

Who is it for?

Our CSA is for everyone. Payment is on a sliding scale from $0 to twice the value of a share. We also accept EBT/SNAP, and EBT/SNAP customers pay half price!

Why CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This model helps farmers by providing much needed income during the late winter and early spring. Customers benefit by receiving discounted produce throughout the growing season.

We strive for our business to reflect our personal values, and one way we ensure this is our sliding scale CSA. We do not believe local food should be a luxury, and we encourage anyone who wants to sign up to pay exactly what they can afford.

What is a free choice CSA?

Free choice feels like shopping at a farmers’ market - you get to choose exactly which vegetables your household likes, and in the amounts you’ll use. If you really like kale, for example, you can take 3 bunches a week! Not a fan of fennel? Skip it! There might be limits at times on a few more popular items (snap peas, for instance) but otherwise you are free to choose your own vegetable adventure.

Share Sizes - Which Size is Right For Me?

Even though our CSA shares are free choice, we still need an idea of our members’ eating habits to make sure that everyone is getting a good value out of the share. We rely on you to honestly assess your vegetable usage to help us plan for, harvest for, and properly fund the CSA.

New in 2024: Instead of labeled share sizes (Big and Little), we will ask for the number of people in your household at sign up, and give you the recommended dollar value of a share for that number of eaters. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at snffarmstead@gmail.com. PLEASE NOTE - WE DO NOT SPLIT SHARES. Each household should sign up for their own share, please!

Here’s how we value our shares:

As we enter the fifth year of our CSA, we have a lot of data! We know what we plant, harvest, and distribute each year, and to how many people.

Using that information, we’ve found that each adult in our CSA eats about $350 of veggies in a CSA season.

Folks with young kids can determine how much each child eats, but we recommend around $150 for kids under 10, and the adult price for kids 10 and up.

Remember: Our sliding scale means that our CSA is affordable for everyone! This is the actual value of the produce available. See our Sign Up page for more pricing and payment options!

You might use MORE than the average amount of veggies if:

  • You or someone in your household is a vegetarian

  • You tend to cook from scratch a lot

  • You consider vegetables the main course

  • You own an “Eat More Kale” bumper sticker

You might use LESS than the average amount of veggies if:

  • You like your veggies more as a side dish

  • You actually don’t like veggies but you know that they’re good for you and you’re trying your best

  • You have a large garden and our CSA is to supplement your haul

See the handy dandy chart on our Sign Up page to help determine what you and your household might pay for your share!
